Xinghai Conservatory of Music

The Xinghai Conservatory of Music, also known as the Xinghai Conservatory, is a music conservatory in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China. It has two campuses: one in the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center in Panyu District, another at No. 48, Xianlie Donglu (Xianlie Rd. E. 23.14978°N 113.30412°E / 23.14978; 113.30412), Tianhe District. The conservatory was established in 1932 by the composer Ma Sicong as the Guangzhou Conservatory of Music.

Both the Xinghai Conservatory of Music and the Xinghai Concert Hall are named after the noted composer Xian Xinghai (Chinese: 冼星海), who died on October 30, 1945, at the age of 40.

School history

  • In October 1957, Guangzhou Music School was founded.
  • 1958 It was renamed Guangzhou Music College.
  • In 1965, it merged with Guangdong Dance School to form Guangdong Art Academy.
  • In 1969, it merged with Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts to form Guangdong People's Academy of Art.
  • In 1978, it was separated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and renamed Guangzhou Music College.
  • In June 1981, it was upgraded to Guangzhou Conservatory of Music.
  • In December 1985, in memory of Guangdong musician Xian Xinghai, it was renamed Xinghai Conservatory of Music.
  • In September 2023, Wang Xiuming, Party secretary of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, accepted disciplinary review and supervision investigation
