Yang Le

Yang Le (simplified Chinese: 杨乐; traditional Chinese: 楊樂; pinyin: Yáng Lè; 10 November 1939 – 22 October 2023) was a Chinese mathematician. He was a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.[2]

Biography

Yang was born and raised in Nantong, Jiangsu. His father, Yang Jingyuan (Chinese: 杨敬渊), was a businessman and assistant manager of Nantong Tongming Electric Company.[3] His mother was named Zhou Jingjuan (周静娟). He primarily studied at the First Affiliated Primary School of Nantong Normal College and studied secondary at Nantong Middle School of Jiangsu Province. He was accepted to Peking University in 1956 and graduated in 1962. After college, he studied mathematics under Xiong Qinglai at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and started working there as a research scientist after the graduate program.[3] He was elected a fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980.

Personal life

Yang married Huang Qieyuan (Chinese: 黄且圆), who is Huang Wanli's daughter. Yang Le died in Beijing on 22 October 2023, at the age of 83.[4]
