Zafaryab Jilani
Zafaryab Jilani (7 February 1950 – 17 May 2023, Hindi: ज़फ़रयाब जिलानी) was an Indian lawyer at Supreme court. He is known for the Babri Masjid case and had served as the Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh.[1] Also he was the secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board.[2][3]

Early life and education
Zafaryab Jilani was born to Abdul Qayyum Jilani on February 7, 1950, in Mallihabad. His father Abdul Qayyum Jilani was a railway employee and later a zamindar.[4] Jilani completed his LLB in 1969 and LLM in 1971 from Aligarh Muslim University and started his law practice in Lucknow in the chamber of Shafiqur Rehman.
Later life and works
He took a master's degree in law and started practicing on the division bench of Lucknow High Court. He was constantly active on issues related to Muslims. Due to this activism, he gradually came closer to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. In 1985, he became a member of the board. After this, when an action committee was formed by the Muslim Personal Law Board in the Shah Bano case, Zafaryab was made its convener. Later, Babri Masjid Action Committee was formed by All India Muslim Personal Law Board after the action committee in Shah Bano case. Jilani was also included in this. Within a short time, it became the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee. Zafaryab Jilani was elected its national coordinator.[5][6]
Death
In May 2021, Jilani suffered a head injury. He was undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital after suffering a serious head injury. However, at that time, his condition was said to be serious, after which he was kept in the ICU. According to doctors, after the head injury, a blood clot had accumulated in his brain, and he had also suffered a brain hemorrhage.[7] However, after successful surgery, his blood clot could be removed. After a few days, he became healthy. Jilani breathed his last in Nishatganj hospital, Lucknow. he passed away.[8]
