En l'absence de Nicol David représentant la Malaisie aux Jeux du Commonwealth et des principales joueuses australiennes et anglaises, Vanessa Atkinson remporte le titre en battant en finale la toute récente championne du monde junior américaine Amanda Sobhy âgée de dix-sept ans[1].
