Borrowed from Latin aeōn (“age, eternity”), from Ancient Greek αἰών (aiṓn, “age, eternity”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eyu- (“vital force, life, long life, eternity”).
Usage notes
The gender is also neuter in Austria.
