From Proto-Germanic *þauh, corresponding to Proto-Germanic *þau (“in that case”) + Proto-Germanic *-uh (“and”) (cognate with Latin -que). Cognate with Old Frisian thāch, Old Saxon thōh, Dutch doch, Old High German doh (whence German doch), Old Norse þó, whence Icelandic þó (“still, yet”)), Gothic 𐌸𐌰𐌿𐌷 (þauh).
