The origin is uncertain. Perhaps from Scythian *χrohu-käsi (“ice-shining, white with snow”). Compare also Old Armenian Կապկոհ (Kapkoh, “Caucasus”), Middle Persian [script needed] (Kap-kōf, “Caucasus”).
