From Byzantine Greek βούρτσα (boúrtsa), also spelled βρούτσα (broútsa, “brush”), βούρτζα (boúrtza), βρούτζα (broútza), from Vulgar Latin *bruscia, whence French brosse; see it for more.
Related to Middle Armenian վրձին (vrjin), Bulgarian ву́рца (vúrca), Romanian vîrță, Albanian vurcë, Ottoman Turkish فرچه (furça), Turkish fırça, Persian فرچه (ferče).
