λυκάβας

Ancient Greek

Alternative forms

  • λυκάμας (lukámas)

Etymology

Often derived from an unattested *λύκη (*lúkē, light) + βαίνω (baínō, to go, to step), as “path of light”, but Beekes finds this unconvincing. He rather suggests a Pre-Greek origin, in view of the alternative form with "μ" and the suffix "-αντ-".
