From Proto-Indo-European *pleh₁-. Cognates include Latin pleo, Sanskrit पिपर्ति (piparti, to fill) and Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬨𐬞𐬁𐬟𐬭𐬁𐬌𐬙𐬌 (hampāfrāiti).
