Substantivisation of the masculine plural of the assumed adjective *στοιχειωμᾰτῐκός (*stoikheiōmatikós), from στοιχεώμᾰτᾰ (stoikheṓmata, “the signs of the Zodiac”) + -ῐκός (-ikós).
