From Hellenistic Koine Greek συλλέκτης, from συλλέγω (sullégō, “collect”). Morphologically, from συλ- (συν-) (“plus”) + λέγω (“ancient sense: choose”) Sense collector of items, semantic loan from French collectionneur. Sense apparatus for collection, semantic loan from French collecteur.[1]
