χόνδρος
See also: χονδρός
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Maybe from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrendʰ- (“crushing”), the same root of Proto-Germanic *grindaną (“to grind”) and Latin frendō (“I gnash”). However, Beekes finds this proposal unconvincing.
