χόνδρος

See also: χονδρός

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Maybe from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrendʰ- (crushing), the same root of Proto-Germanic *grindaną (to grind) and Latin frendō (I gnash). However, Beekes finds this proposal unconvincing.
