Дедушка Мороз, a tall skinny old fellow decked out in red with white trim or blue with white trim, traditionally brings gifts for Russian children on New Year’s Eve night (Dec. 31). The children see him at children’s parties (утренник, новогодний утренник). His helper is Снегурочка, the Snow Maiden.
