гусеница
Russian
Etymology
Cognate with Old Church Slavonic юсеница (jusenica), Ukrainian гусениця (husenycja), усениця (usenycja), Bulgarian гъсеница (gǎsenica), въсеница (vǎsenica), Serbo-Croatian гусеница, Slovene gosenica, vosenica, Czech housenka, Slovak husenica, Polish wąsienica, Polish gąsienica, Upper Sorbian husańca, Lower Sorbian guseńca. Probably from Proto-Slavic *ǫsěnica. The initial г (g)- is prothetic or by conflation with Common Slavonic гоущерица (gušterica, “lizard”) (Russian я́щерица (jáščerica)), and is not related to Russian гусь (gusʹ).
