Usage notes
The term is often used by political bloggers and other politically active citizens in Russia and other post-Soviet countries with strong anti-western sentiment as a pejorative against supporters of western liberal democracy, free-market capitalism and social liberalism. It is a contraction of the word "liberal" and "pederast" as in Russia pederasty is synonymously associated with homosexuality, the rights of people practicing which are usually defended by groups supporting the aforementioned political principles.
