From *nečä "how many", from Proto-Turkic *nē- (“what”) + quantitative affix *-ča/-čä.
Cognate with Tatar ничә (niçä), Kazakh неше (neşe), Kyrgyz нече (neçe), Uzbek necha, Uyghur نەچچە (nechche), Turkmen näçe, Azerbaijani neçə, Khakas нинӌе (nince), Tuvan чеже (čäžä, “how many”).
