пастырь

Russian

Etymology

Uncertain. A borrowing from Latin pastor (shepherd) through a Germanic intermediary or a derivation directly from пасти (pasti) are both problematic.[1] Some posit a derivation from a non-attested *пастъ with the same meaning.[2]

па́стырь (pástyrʹ) m anim (genitive па́стыря, nominative plural па́стыри, genitive plural па́стырей)
