пастырь
Russian
Etymology
Uncertain. A borrowing from Latin pastor (“shepherd”) through a Germanic intermediary or a derivation directly from пасти (pasti) are both problematic.[1] Some posit a derivation from a non-attested *пастъ with the same meaning.[2]
