Borrowed or cognate with Proto-Turkic *gȫk, compare with Turkish gök and potentially Altaic Evenki куку (kuku, “sea-coloured”).

From Middle Mongolian ᠬᠥᠬᠦᠨ (kökün), from Proto-Mongolic *kökön (“breast, nipple”).
Somehow related to Proto-Turkic *kögüz / *kögüŕ (“chest”). Compare Turkish göğüs, Kyrgyz көкүрөк (kökürök) and Chuvash кăкăр (kăkăr).
