Etymology

From Sogdian 𐫀𐫇𐫋𐫀𐫐 (ʾwjʾk /užāk/, letter of the alphabet) via Turkic, perhaps originally from Middle Chinese (dzɨH, letter). Occasionally confused with үзэг (üzeg, pen) as in several other Mongolic languages.
