Etymology

From հուր (hur) + աչ- (ačʿ-) + -եայ (-eay), literally “fire-eyed”. Invented by Movsēs Xorenacʿi as the name of a legendary Armenian king. Ačaṙyan considers the similarity with the Avestan male given name 𐬟𐬭𐬁𐬗𐬌𐬌𐬀 (frāciia) accidental (see Bartholomae for this name).
