Etymology
From Middle Median *axšēt, from Proto-Iranian *xšaytah (“shining”). Compare Avestan 𐬑𐬱𐬀𐬉𐬙𐬀 (xšaēta, “shining”), Middle Persian šyt' (šēd, “bright; dun horse”), Kurdish şê (“word denoting the coloring of horses”) and the second part of Persian خورشید (xwaršēd, “sun”). See also Աշխէն (Ašxēn).
