առատիկ
Old Armenian
Etymology
Probably from the preposition առ (aṙ, “by, at, near”) + տիկ (tik, “wineskin”).
Noun
առատիկ • (aṙatik)
- a cord for binding up a criminal’s feet
Usage notes
The word is attested only in oblique cases առատկաց (aṙatkacʿ) and առատկաւք (aṙatkawkʿ), so the nominative can be reconstructed as *առատիկ (*aṙatik) or *առատուկ (*aṙatuk). The modern literary Armenian has chosen the latter but the etymology points to the former.
