Borrowed from Middle Median *arōδ, from Proto-Iranian *rawdiš (copper; bronze). Cognate with Parthian 𐫡𐫇𐫔 (rwδ /rōδ/), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (lwd /rōy/), Manichaean Middle Persian 𐫡𐫇𐫏 (rwy /rōy/), Persian روی (rōy, antimony, copper), Baluchi رود (rōd, copper) and Sogdian 𐫡𐫇𐫔 (rwδ /rōδ/, copper).
