Etymology
A Wanderwort of uncertain ultimate origin: compare Classical Syriac ܒܛܐ (baṭṭāʾ), Arabic بَطّ (baṭṭ), Persian بت (bat), Northern Kurdish bet, Laki بەت (bet), Chechen бад (bad), Dargwa бятӏ (bəṭ), Lezgi пӏатӏ (ṗaṭ), Spanish pato (“duck”), Georgian ბატი (baṭi), Albanian patë (“goose”).[1][2] The immediate source of the Armenian is probably an Iranian language.[1][3]
