Old Armenian
Etymology
The origin is uncertain.[1]
J̌ahukyan separates the meaning "fierce, bold, haughty etc." from the rest, tentatively deriving it from Iranian: compare Sogdian [script needed] (ɣwrʾk(h) /ɣurāk/), ܓܘܪܝ (gwry /gurē/, “proud, exalting”) and the descendants of Proto-Indo-Iranian *gr̥Húš (“heavy”). According to him, գոռոզ (goṙoz) may be related.[2]
