Etymology

Reduplication of the root *գուր (*gur), from Old Armenian *գոյր (*goyr), of unknown origin.[1][2] The root is also found in Old Armenian ողջագուրեմ (ołǰagurem) and perhaps dialectal Armenian գուրալ (gural)․ It has been compared to գորով (gorov).
