A Zan borrowing. Compare Mingrelian ჭანჯი (č̣anǯi), ჭანდი (č̣andi), Laz მ-ჭაჯი (m-č̣aǯi, “fly”), Old Georgian მ-წერი (m-c̣eri, “fly; insect”). Klimov reconstructs Proto-Kartvelian *mc̣₁er- for these.
