նաւազ
Old Armenian
Etymology
From Parthian nʾwʾz (nāwāz, “skipper”), from Iranian *nau- (“ship”) + *az- (“to drive, to lead”); the first is cognate with նաւ (naw), the second with ածեմ (acem). Compare Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬁𐬰𐬀 (nauuāza-, “skipper”) and Sanskrit नावाज (nāvājá-, “skipper, boatman”).
