Etymology
From Iranian *pādabanda- (“a tie for feet”), from *pāda- (“foot”) + *banda- (“a tie”), from *band- (“to tie”). Compare Sanskrit पादबन्ध (pāda-bandha, “a tie or fetter for the feet”). See Persian پا (pā, “foot”) and بند (band, “tie”) for the constituents.
