From Iranian *pādabanda- (a tie for feet), from *pāda- (foot) + *banda- (a tie), from *band- (to tie). Compare Sanskrit पादबन्ध (pāda-bandha, a tie or fetter for the feet). See Persian پا (, foot) and بند (band, tie) for the constituents.
