ջրածին

Armenian

Etymology

From Old Armenian ջրածին (ǰracin); see it for more. The sense “hydrogen” is a calque of French hydrogène formed from hydro- (water) + -gène (generating), because hydrogen generates water with oxygen; compare թթվածին (tʿtʿvacin).
