בבקשה

Hebrew

Etymology

Root
ב־ק־שׁ

From בְּ־ (b'-, in) + בַּקָּשָׁה (bakashá, request); hence literally “in request”.

Pronunciation

  • (file)

Interjection

בְּבַקָּשָׁה (b'vakashá)

  1. please (said in expressing a request)
  2. you’re welcome (said when one is thanked)
  3. here you are (said when you hand something over)

Usage notes

  • (you’re welcome): Unlike English you’re welcome, בְּבַקָּשָׁה may be used even before being thanked, in the manner of there you are or here you go. Note that this is not like the sarcastic use of English you’re welcome to express annoyance at not being thanked.
