Etymology

From נָצְרַת‎‎ (nats'rat, “Nazareth”) +‎ ־ִי‎ (-í), the city of Jesus' origin, and thus the Hebrew term to identify Christians. Compare Classical Syriac ܢܵܨܪܵܝܵܐ‎ (nāṣrāyā) and Arabic نَصْرَانِيّ‎ (naṣrāniyy).
