From נָצְרַת‎ (nats'rat, Nazareth) + ־ִי (), the city of Jesus' origin, and thus the Hebrew term to identify Christians. Compare Classical Syriac ܢܵܨܪܵܝܵܐ (nāṣrāyā) and Arabic نَصْرَانِيّ (naṣrāniyy).
