Originally חג הסוכות \ חַג הַסֻכּוֹת‎ (khág hasukót, literally “Festival of Booths”), from חַג‎ (khág) + סוכה \ סֻכָּה‎ (suká, “booth”), after the huts lived in during the holiday, or after the ancient huts the modern ones commemorate.
