From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hmbʾl), 𐫍𐫖𐫁𐫀𐫡 (hmbʾr /hambār/, “store”), from Old Persian *𐏃𐎶𐎲𐎠𐎼 (hambāraʰ), from Proto-Iranian *hambāráh (compare Avestan 𐬵𐬅𐬨𐬠𐬀𐬭 (hą̇̇mbar)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sambʰārás (compare Sanskrit सम्भार (sambhārá, “provisions”)).
