From Middle Persian [script needed] (blnc /brinǰ/), 𐫁𐫡𐫏𐫗𐫗𐫃 (brynng /bring/, “bronze, brass”). Cognate with Parthian 𐫛𐫓𐫏𐫗𐫝 (plync /plinǰ/) (whence Old Armenian պղինձ (płinj, “copper”), Old Georgian პილენძი (ṗilenʒi)).
