From Proto-Iranian *varn-aka-, from Proto-Indo-European *urh₁en- (“ram”), whence also Sanskrit उरण (úraṇa), Central Kurdish بهرخ (berx), Northern Kurdish бәрх (berx), Dimilki-Zazaki verek, Ancient Greek ἀρήν (arḗn) and Old Armenian գառն (gaṙn).
