From the Middle Persian equivalent of Classical Persian خوان (xvân, “table”).

خُوَان or خِوَان • (ḵuwān or ḵiwān) m (plural أَخْوِنَة (ʾaḵwina) or أَخَاوِين (ʾaḵāwīn))
- table, particularly such one as is fit for dining
- 7th century CE, Ṣaḥīḥ al-Buḵāriyy, 70:14:
- أَكَلَ عَلَى سُكُرُّجَةٍ قَطُّ، وَلَا خُبِزَ لَهُ مُرَقَّقٌ قَطُّ، وَلَا أَكَلَ عَلَى خِوَانٍ
- ʾakala ʿalā sukurrujatin qaṭṭu, wa-lā ḵubiza la-hū muraqqaqun qaṭṭu, wa-lā ʾakala ʿalā ḵiwānin
