Arabic

Etymology

According to Nöldeke, Arabic سَاعَة (sāʿa) and Ge'ez ሳዐት (saʿät), ሰዐት (säʿät) are borrowed from Aramaic שָׁעְתָא /‎ ܫܳܥܬܳܐ (šāʿəṯā). Leslau does not dispute this. ِCompare Hebrew שעה and Mehri سات.
