Borrowed from Aramaic שׁוּנָּרָא / ܫܘܢܪܐ (šunnāra), ܣܢܘܪܐ (sannūrā), from Akkadian 𒊓𒀀 (SA.A /šurānu/), whence also Hebrew שֻׁנָּר (šunnār), ultimately non-Semitic.
