طقس

From Classical Syriac ܛܟܣܐ‎ (ṭekkəsā), from Ancient Greek τάξις (táxis, “arrangement”). Apparently a late 19th century borrowing.

طَقْس • (ṭaqs) m (plural طُقُوس‎ (ṭuqūs))

1. weather, climate, weather forecast (usually used for short period meteorological changes)

     وكل ذلك مرسوم بيد رسام إسبنيولي كان حاضراً معنا يرينا ذلك، والمقصود تمثيل الذوق الإسبنيولي في التصوير الملون الذي يطابق طقس أرضهم الصافية

     wa-kullu ḏālika marsūmun bi-yadi rassāmin ʾisbanyūliyyin kāna ḥāḍiran maʿanā yuriyanā ḏālika, wa-l-maqṣūdu tamṯīlu ḏ-ḏawqi l-ʾisbanyūliyyi fī t-taṣwīri l-mulawwani llaḏī yuṭābiqu ṭaqsa ʾarḍihimu ṣ-ṣāfiyyati

     All this was painted by a Spanish painter who was present with us to show us that. The aim was to illustrate the Spanish taste in painting in colour, which matches the climate of their serene land

     وعندما يولد الولد يعمّدونه بعد ثمانية أيام أو أقل وفي ذلك يخالفون طقس أجدادهم الذين كانوا قضوا بالعماد في عيد الدنح وسبت النور فقط.‎

     wa-ʿindamā yūladu l-waladu yuʿammidūnahu baʿda ṯamāniyati ʾayyāmin ʾaw ʾaqalla wa-fī ḏālika yuḵālifūna ṭaqsa ʾajdādihimu llaḏīna kānū qaḍaw bil-ʿimādi fī ʿīdi d-dinḥi wa-sabti n-nūri faqaṭ.

     When a child is born they baptise it after eight days or less and in doing so they violate the practice of their ancestors, who used to only baptise on the Epiphany or on Easter Saturday.
