كبيس
Arabic
Etymology
From the root ك ب س (k-b-s), but the “intercalary” meaning is a semantic loan from Classical Syriac ܟܒܝܫ (kabbīš), the passive participle of ܟܒܰܫ (kḇaš, “to tread down”), the Syriac verb corresponding to Arabic كَبَسَ (kabasa, “to press down”).
