From Middle Persian [script needed] (myzd /mizd/), from Old Persian, from Proto-Iranian *miždám (compare Ossetian мызд (myzd), Avestan 𐬨𐬍𐬲𐬛𐬀 (mīžda)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *miždʰám, from Proto-Indo-European *misdʰós.[1]
