From Middle Persian 𐭯𐭲𐭪𐭫 (patkar, pahikar, picture, image), from Old Persian, [script needed] (patikarā), composed of [script needed] (patiy, against) and [script needed] (kar-, to do, make). Akin to Parthian 𐭐𐭕𐭊𐭓 (ptkr /padkar/, image) and Old Armenian պատկեր (patker); an Iranian borrowing.
