From the root ܚ-ܫ-ܒ (ḥ-š-b) related to thinking. Compare Arabic حَسَبَ (ḥasaba), Hebrew חָשַׁב (ḥāšaḇ), and Egyptian ḥsb, as well as Old Armenian հաշիւ (hašiw), an Aramaic borrowing.
