Borrowed from Persian کبوتر (kabutar), from Middle Persian [script needed] (kpwtl /kabōtar/, “pigeon”). Compare Gujarati કબૂતર (kabūtar), Hindi कबूतर (kabūtar), Punjabi ਕਬੂਤਰ (kabūtar), Bengali কবুতর (kôbutôr).
