Etymology
From Maharastri Prakrit 𑀢𑀁𑀩 (taṃba), from Sanskrit ताम्र (tāmrá). Cognate with Gujarati તાંબું (tā̃bũ), Hindi ताँबा (tā̃bā), Punjabi ਤਾਂਬਾ (tāmbā), Bengali তামা (tama), Assamese তাম (tam). Doublet of ताम्र (tāmra).
