Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tuHṣṇíHm, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tuHšníHm. Cognate with Avestan 𐬙𐬎𐬱𐬥𐬌̣𐬱𐬀𐬛-‎ (tušnịšad-). Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *tuh₂s-n-, with cognates such as Danish tyst (“quiet”)[1], Old Prussian tusnan (“still”) and Luwian 𒌅𒄷𒅆𒀀𒄿 (tuḫušiya-, “to await, to wait and see”)[2].
