From Proto-Indo-Aryan *niẓḍás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *niždás, from Proto-Indo-European *nisdós (“nest”). Cognate with Latin nīdus, English nest. In the Rigveda, ḷ is metrically a cluster, suggesting a Rigvedic niẓḍá.
