From Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀞 (miṭṭha), from Sanskrit मिष्ट (miṣṭa), a later form of मृष्ट (mṛṣṭá). Cognate with Assamese মিঠা (mitha).
